Since the Reagan era, one question has burned brighter than a thousand suns: "What would Akuma (of Street Fighter fame) look like had he been a character in Nintendo's classic 'Pro Wrestling'"? Before we solve that mystery, let's take a look at the characters (save for Great Puma), and their finite color palette artwork, from the game.
I thought it’d be an interesting exercise to see what I could come up with in terms of redesigning facebook’s UI. The actual process of digging in and figuring out what I was hoping to accomplish was truly painful, however; it ended up shifting towards an exercise in masochism instead. Even after only being on the service for about a year and a half, I found that “un-seeing” anything in terms of how tools function, how items are grouped, and where things are located, was quite a non-trivial task.
Experiment in font design in which characters are culled from a 3 x 3 grid. The typography itself, then, becomes a design of shape and form. This creative test was completed awhile ago, but I seem to remember my brain imploding when attempting to design a full character set through this method.
